KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) — Rapper Bryan "Birdman" Williams was among 16 people charged with possession of marijuana Tuesday after the RV they were riding in was pulled over by police for making an improper lane change.
Kingsport Police Cpl. Tim Horne said he stopped the vehicle after seeing it force a tractor trailer into the emergency lane on Interstate 81.
Horne said he could smell marijuana from inside the rented RV and located about a pound of marijuana in a trash can in the kitchenette after obtaining consent to search the vehicle.
Williams, 38, his wife Brittany, 18, and his brother, Ronald Williams, 43, were each charged with possession of more than 1/2 ounce of marijuana as were 13 others, several of whom are also affiliated with the rap industry and Cash Money Records, which was founded by Bryan and Ronald Williams.
Among those arrested were road manager Shahid Muhammad, 40, Cash Money Records promoter Casey Collins, 42, and music promoter Ovide Antoine, 32, of Miami, Fla.
All 16 remained jailed late Tuesday night. It was not known if any of them had an attorney.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is assisting in the investigation because an assault rifle, a handgun and a magazine for a .45-caliber handgun were found on the RV, Horne said. No weapons charges have been filed.
The group said they were traveling from New Orleans to New York for a BET network shoot, Horne said.

The multi-platinum recording artist sat down for the October issue of Essence Magazine last week and announced the shocking news stating, "Yes, I am gay, and I have always been." After several internet rumors have been circulating around the internet. He also said, "You now this world we live in is full of judgement, resulting in one of the reasons why it took me so long to come out of the closet." Earlier this month, a man by the name of Derrick Johnson claimed that he had an intimate relationship with the singer during there teen years in high school. He also said that for months the singer and Def Jam has been trying to pay him to keep quiet over the ordeal. Worrying that it would destroy his image. Ne-yo responds saying, that the relationship did occur and he is no longer ashamed of saying that he was deeply in love. Reciting "That situation was what inspired me to write the song Unfaithful (Rhianna). But no one knew it was actually about myself, and our relationship." He told Essence that he doesn't care anymore, he was tired of living a lie and is ready to come clean. Quoting, "the music industry can either except me for who I am, or desert me." The full interview with the magazine is expected to hit stands mid-October.

These photographs dated 1868 reveals a very little of the terrible suffering caused to millions of people by the slave trade. This group of severely emaciated boys and young men on the lower deck of a Royal Naval ship apparently have been taken from what was a slave vessel trading illegally off the African coast headed to the Americas. The captain of the Royal Naval ship had instructions not to return the rescued slaves to the place on the coast where they had been put on the slave ship (presumably because they were in danger of being recaptured by traders) but it is not clear from the available documentation what happened to them afterwards.

Cheney wounded fellow hunter Harry Whittington in the face, neck and chest Saturday, apparently because he didn't see Whittington approaching as he fired on a covey of quail in Texas.

Hunting safety experts interviewed Monday agreed it would have been a good idea for Whittington to announce himself — something he apparently didn't do, according to a witness. But they stressed that the shooter is responsible for knowing his surroundings and avoiding hitting other people.

"We always stress to anybody that before you make any kind of a shot, it's incumbent upon the shooter to assess the situation and make sure it's a safe shot," said Mark Birkhauser, president-elect of the International Hunter Education Association and hunter education coordinator in New Mexico. "Once you squeeze that trigger, you can't bring that shot back."

Cheney, an experienced hunter, has not commented publicly about the accident. He avoided reporters by leaving an Oval Office meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan before the press was escorted in.

The outspoken rapper defends his brash attitude inside the magazine's pages, on newsstands Friday. He is also pictured posing as Muhammad Ali.

"In America, they want you to accomplish these great feats, to pull off these David Copperfield-type stunts," he says. "You want me to be great, but you don't ever want me to say I'm great?"

West also says his hit song "Gold Digger" was the best song last year and that it should have been nominated for the Grammy's best rap song category: "That's a gimme Grammy."

Nevertheless, the 27-year-old is nominated for eight awards, including album of the year for his sophomore album, "Late Registration." The Grammys will be presented Feb. 8.

West has always been forthright in saying what he feels, most famously when he said "George Bush doesn't care about black people" during a telethon for Hurricane Katrina victims.

"If I was more complacent and I let things slide, my life would be easier, but you all wouldn't be as entertained," he says. "My misery is your pleasure."

The strangest tangent of the Rolling Stone story, however, is when West says he's addicted to pornography. He remembers first seeing his father's Playboy magazine when he was 5 years old.

UPN & WB Networks Combine (No More Black Shows)

The two networks were launched in 1995 with great fanfare. Both aimed at the youthful viewers who were lucrative and yet increasingly elusive for their bigger broadcast rivals.

Each has since lost its owners close to $1 billion.

Now, in a surprise move that's a sign of the struggles in network television, Warner Bros. Entertainment and CBS are shutting down their also-ran networks, WB and UPN, this September.

Instead, they are jointly forming a new network, dubbed CW, to replace both. CW will inherit the assets — and most of the top shows — from WB and UPN.

The outlook for both networks was grim. Both targeted the same audience of women ages 18 to 34.

NEW NETWORK AT A GLANCE

Warner Bros., Tribune and CBS will shut down their struggling WB and UPN networks and merge the assets and programming into a single new broadcast network for the fall season. The new network:

Name: The CW, for CBS and Warner
Ownership: 50-50 CBS and Warner. Tribune trades its 22.5% of The WB for 10-year deal to carry The CW on its stations.
Stations: 16 Tribune stations (including its outlets in the top three markets), the 12 UPN stations owned by CBS and new affiliates in the remaining markets.
Hours of programming: 13 hours in primetime, 30 hours a week total, with emphasis emphasis on young women age 18 to 34. Afternoons will have repeats of primetime shows.
The hours: Monday through Friday: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., Eastern. Saturday morning: Kids’ programming, 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. Eastern. Sunday: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Eastern.

"Neither one of these businesses looked like it had a great future," says CBS Chief Executive Leslie Moonves. By creating a single entity, "We get a better network, and the stations become immensely more valuable."

Warner and CBS each will own 50% of the venture, to be run by UPN president Dawn Ostroff, overseeing programming, and WB COO John Maatta, handling business operations.

No cash will change hands. Tribune Co., which owns 22.5% of WB, will trade the stake for a 10-year deal to have CW programming for its stations in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and 10 other cities, but it will pay for the privilege.

"At this point we felt that being an affiliate was the best option," said Tribune Co. CEO Dennis FitzSimons. "Our TV stations will have a stronger prime-time lineup."

CBS will own CW affiliates in eight markets, including Philadelphia, San Francisco and Atlanta.

Despite public proclamations of support, parent Time Warner's interest in sustaining WB's losses has cooled. Last November, the company approached Walt Disney Co., offering to sell the network or partner with ABC on it, senior executives at both companies said. Disney rebuffed the offer, and Warner Bros. began discussions with CBS just after Thanksgiving.

"We recognized a while ago that the economic model of a stand-alone broadcast network that doesn't own its stations is not a good model," says Bruce Rosenblum, president of Warner Bros. Television Group.

American pop star Michael Jackson has officially announced that he has been following the five tenets of Islam and intends to convert to Islam, according to a report on the website of Arab-Israeli newspaper Panorama.

The report is based on information elicited from sources in Bahrain.
According to the report, Jackson’s announcement noted he is moving to Bahrain and has purchased some real-estate on an artificial island there. The singer said he decided to convert to Islam because he is convinced it is the closest religion to his personal beliefs.
Jackson also noted he intends to soon move all his assets and his studio from the U.S. to Bahrain, and expressed his hope to be rid of various legal troubles and enjoy the kind of freedom he says he does not have in America.
Notably, if the reports are correct Jackson would not be the first member of his family to make the move to Islam. His brother, Jermaine, who moved to the Gulf nation of Dubai, is also a convert.
According to the sources, Jermaine was the one to provide his famous brother with books about Islam and encouraged him to convert. The report says the pop star read the books and even added his comments on some pages.

WOMAN FINDS LIVE ROACHES IN HER KFC SANDWITCH

WFAA-TV Linda Watson saved the roaches she said she found in her sandwiches at KFC.

It was supposed to be a quick after school snack, but instead a family said it turned out more like a scene from an episode of "Fear Factor."
A family claimed it ate fast food sandwiches filled with baby roaches.
However, the real debate began after the company quickly offered a cash settlement that Linda Watson said made her even angrier.
Watson said she drove up to a KFC drive-through window in Waxahachie and came home with the surprise.
"They were all in the sandwich [and] they were alive crawling in the napkin," she said.
Her daughter, Alicia Lewis, said she ate some of the food before she saw the roaches and what she ate made her sick.
"I had diarrhea and it went on for two days," she said.
Watson kept the moldy evidence of baby roaches in her freezer, and said when she went back to complain she saw another live roach.
Health department inspectors later found two dead roaches while inspecting the same location.
"[They were] not in the food prep area," said Sonny Wilson. "One was in storage [and] the other was up closer to the drive-through window."
A pile of letters at Watson's home document negotiations with the restaurant owner's insurance company and the Watson family after the incident.
"First of all, they offered us $1,000 and I thought that was an insult for eating roaches," Watson said.
She asked for $5 million and the insurer went up to $5,000.
While the company said they want to investigate and appease the customer, they also said they are investigating Watson as well.
"We are taking this very seriously, as we do any claims about objects in the food," said Laurie Schalow, a spokeswoman for Yum! Brands, Inc., the parent company that has more than 11,000 KFC outlets around the world. "Based on her high demands, we're not ruling anything out, including possible motive."
In a widely-publicized case last year, a woman in California claimed she found a human finger in a bowl of fast food chili. Anna Ayala and her husband, Jaime Plascencia, were later convicted of planting the finger as part of a hoax. They were sentenced to stiff prison terms last week.
Watson said her only motive is justice—at somewhere between $5,000 to $1 million.
"Because it's wrong," she said. "I didn't want to eat roaches. I just wanted to eat, and if they don't think that is wrong...They are wrong for doing that to us. It's just nasty."
In spite of the roaches, the restaurant passed its inspection, hired a pest control company and remains open.
The health department director said he would still eat at the location.
However, the only time the Watson family visits the location now is with picket signs and Watson shares her feelings about the restaurant with a car bumper sticker that reads: "KFC SERVES ROACHES, BOYCOTT KFC 1-800-CALL-KFC."

NEW YORK - Knicks president and basketball legend Isiah Thomas was at the center of a lawsuit on Tuesday night after a senior female employee alleged she had been the target of harassment.

Anucha Browne Sanders, the team's high-profile senior vice president of marketing, filed papers against the hoops great in Manhattan Federal Court on Tuesday - claiming Thomas called her a "b----`' and asked her to have sex with him.

She said when she refused his advances, the 44-year-old married father replied: "What? I can't get any love today?"

Thomas' legal team immediately branded Browne Sanders an opportunist - charging her complaints followed a failed attempt to extort $6 million.

And they charged she was using Hall of Famer Thomas' superstar standing to aid her case.

"This lawsuit is a blatant attempt by Anucha Browne Sanders to get a large sum of money from Madison Square Garden by taking advantage of the celebrity status of our client," said Thomas' attorneys Peter Parcher and Sue Ellen Eisenberg.

"While still employed, she demanded from the Garden, as a condition of her departure, a payment of $6 million, which is more than 20 years of her salary."

But Browne Sanders says Thomas' alleged shabby treatment of her was so public that team members - including star player Stephon Marbury - joined in the abuse.

"The Knicks' star player felt free to refer to Browne Sanders as a `black b----,' " the lawsuit states.

In another accusation sure to draw major attention, Browne Sanders claims Thomas worked with concierges at hotels frequented by visiting teams to encourage out-of-town players to go to certain bars and strip clubs and get drunk the night before a day game.

Thomas launched his alleged campaign against Browne Sanders - a former college basketball standout who became a rising executive - in March 2004, following a loss by the struggling Knicks, the suit claims.

He blamed their poor performance on a late-night public relations event the night before.

Jackson, who seems to be settling in the Persian Gulf, was seen leaving Marina Mall holding a young child by the hand. On the way out through a back door, he shook hands with security guards.

He was wearing an abaya, a robe with long sleeves, under which his pants, white shirt and men's shoes could be seen. His head and face were wrapped in a black veil and he was wearing black gloves.

The veil, abaya and gloves were of a style typically worn by conservative Bahraini women, though Jackson appeared to be wearing them to hide his identity.

A woman wearing an abaya, jeans and a scarf over her head that partially covered her face accompanied Jackson. She asked photographers to respect their privacy, saying they were scaring the children.

Since his June acquittal in California on child molestation charges, Jackson has made several trips to Bahrain as a guest of Sheik Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the son of Bahrain's king.

Bradenton, Florida -- Deputies say a 16-year-old has been arrested for beating his grandmother with a two-by-four for refusing to give him $100 for beer.

Charged is Kurt Cass of Hammock Drive, Bradenton.

Investigators say Cass went into his 60-year-old grandmother's bedroom Thursday and asked her for $100 for beer. When she refused, he allegedly placed a razor blade on her throat and demanded she take him to the bank to get the money, deputies said.

"When the victim arrived back home she locked all of the doors," deputies reported. "The defendant arrived back home and kicked the front door in.

"Once inside the defendant grabbed a two foot 2x4 piece of wood and hit the victim numerous times on the back. The defendant then grabbed a three foot piece of 3 inch PVC pipe and hit the victim on her head, back, and legs numerous times. The defendant's case worker arrived on scene and was able to hold him until law enforcement arrived."

Deputies said Cass has made comments in the past to his grandmother that she should kill his entire family.

Cass was charged with domestic aggravated assault, two counts of domestic aggravated battery, attempted robbery, and kidnapping.

Authorities say Cass came from a troubled family. His mother is in prison on cocaine possession and sale charges, and his father is serving a 15-year prison sentence for manslaughter after choking a prostitute to death in 2002.

The grandmother has had legal guardianship of Cass and his little brother since 1994.

MIAMI - Rapper 50 Cent stole some of the lyrics for his 2003 hit "In Da Club" from a song by former 2 Live Crew frontman Luther Campbell, an attorney claims in a lawsuit.

Richard C. Wolfe filed the copyright infringement lawsuit against Curtis James Jackson, aka 50 Cent, in Miami federal court last week on behalf of Lil' Joe Wein Music.

Parts of "In Da Club," from the album "Get Rich or Die Tryin'", copy "It's Your Birthday," released in 1994 on Campbell's solo album "Still a Freak for Life," the lawsuit alleged.

A message left Friday for Wolfe was not immediately returned.

Lil' Joe Wein Music holds the copyright to "It's Your Birthday" and other songs Campbell produced with his rap group 2 Live Crew and as a solo artist. Lil' Joe Wein Music is owned by Joseph Weinberger, an attorney who formerly represented Campbell.

Campbell's song "I Like It, I love It" can also be heard on the 2003 DVD "50 Cent The New Breed," the lawsuit claims.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages in addition to attorneys' fees and other legal costs.

Wolfe won a $2.3 million judgment against Campbell in 1994 for another rapper who claimed Campbell withheld royalties.

The New York Daily News reports the MY PREROGATIVE singer, 36, has been telling friends and acquaintances he is divorcing Houston, 42, after an infamously tumultuous marriage.

Earlier this month (07-08JAN06), the former NEW EDITION bandmember was reportedly seen flirting with a group of beauties backstage at an all-star concert featuring R+B groups SWV, GUY and BLACKSTREET at the Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

A backstage source tells the Daily News, "While flirting with a bunch of women, they asked, 'What's up with your wife?' Bobby said, 'We ain't together no more. We're getting a divorce.'"

Outkast Movie 'Idlewild' Comming Soon To Theaters...

Outkast’s long-awaited film Idlewild is now in its final stages of production, despite several delays, said manager Michael “Blue” Williams.

“You gotta let creative be creative, that’s what it is,” Williams told MTV News, explaining why the film was pushed back. “It ain’t always when I want it. What it comes down to is, even when I’m ready to hit people with the wham-wham, the guys gotta be ready.” The film also co-stars Hustle & Flow’s Terrence Howard. Andre 3000 and Big Boi have already chosen a first single for the film’s soundtrack and plan on shooting a video soon. "It looks like we're gonna start off with a new single that Big has, just to get the ball rolling," said Williams.

It’ll be performances, people speaking on there, a history montage. A nice special that would give her just due especially for people who don’t know what she did.”

Despite a costly lawsuit in which Parks sued the group for their 1998 single “Rosa Parks,” Williams maintained that Outkast never meant any harm. “It was my idea to figure out how we could ensure that everyone always understood we always have good intentions towards Ms. Parks.” The tribute is still in its early stages, and there are no details yet on a release date.

It's become a TV ritual: Every year in mid-January, around the time of Martin Luther King's birthday, we get perfunctory network news reports about "the slain civil rights leader."

The remarkable thing about this annual review of King's life is that several years — his last years — are totally missing, as if flushed down a memory hole.

What TV viewers see is a closed loop of familiar file footage: King battling desegregation in Birmingham (1963); reciting his dream of racial harmony at the rally in Washington (1963); marching for voting rights in Selma, Alabama (1965); and finally, lying dead on the motel balcony in Memphis (1968).

An alert viewer might notice that the chronology jumps from 1965 to 1968. Yet King didn't take a sabbatical near the end of his life. In fact, he was speaking and organizing as diligently as ever.

Almost all of those speeches were filmed or taped. But they're not shown today on TV.

Why?

It's because national news media have never come to terms with what Martin Luther King Jr. stood for during his final years.

In the early 1960s, when King focused his challenge on legalized racial discrimination in the South, most major media were his allies. Network TV and national publications graphically showed the police dogs and bullwhips and cattle prods used against Southern blacks who sought the right to vote or to eat at a public lunch counter.

But after passage of civil rights acts in 1964 and 1965, King began challenging the nation's fundamental priorities. He maintained that civil rights laws were empty without "human rights" — including economic rights. For people too poor to eat at a restaurant or afford a decent home, King said, anti-discrimination laws were hollow.

Noting that a majority of Americans below the poverty line were white, King developed a class perspective. He decried the huge income gaps between rich and poor, and called for "radical changes in the structure of our society" to redistribute wealth and power.

"True compassion," King declared, "is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring."

By 1967, King had also become the country's most prominent opponent of the Vietnam War, and a staunch critic of overall U.S. foreign policy, which he deemed militaristic. In his "Beyond Vietnam" speech delivered at New York's Riverside Church on April 4, 1967 — a year to the day before he was murdered — King called the United States "the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today."

From Vietnam to South Africa to Latin America, King said, the U.S. was "on the wrong side of a world revolution." King questioned "our alliance with the landed gentry of Latin America," and asked why the U.S. was suppressing revolutions "of the shirtless and barefoot people" in the Third World, instead of supporting them.

In foreign policy, King also offered an economic critique, complaining about "capitalists of the West investing huge sums of money in Asia, Africa and South America, only to take the profits out with no concern for the social betterment of the countries."

You haven't heard the "Beyond Vietnam" speech on network news retrospectives, but national media heard it loud and clear back in 1967 — and loudly denounced it. Time magazine called it "demagogic slander that sounded like a script for Radio Hanoi." The Washington Post patronized that "King has diminished his usefulness to his cause, his country, his people."

In his last months, King was organizing the most militant project of his life: the Poor People's Campaign. He crisscrossed the country to assemble "a multiracial army of the poor" that would descend on Washington — engaging in nonviolent civil disobedience at the Capitol, if need be — until Congress enacted a poor people's bill of rights. Reader's Digest warned of an "insurrection."

King's economic bill of rights called for massive government jobs programs to rebuild America's cities. He saw a crying need to confront a Congress that had demonstrated its "hostility to the poor" — appropriating "military funds with alacrity and generosity," but providing "poverty funds with miserliness."

How familiar that sounds today, more than a quarter-century after King's efforts on behalf of the poor people's mobilization were cut short by an assassin's bullet.

As 1995 gets underway, in this nation of immense wealth, the White House and Congress continue to accept the perpetuation of poverty. And so do most mass media. Perhaps it's no surprise that they tell us little about the last years of Martin Luther King's life.

Brotha King believed that we should turn the other cheek when the white man came at us with hoses , and dogs (that were trained to bite black men in the groin area and castrate him & bite the black woman in her vaginal area), and not to mention the lynchings of outr people (men, women, little black kids). I had a dream that if a man woman or child comes at you or your family with violence and threatens you or your family's safety tha you do your best to protect yourself, even if that means killing the person threatening. Don't get me wrong, I have much love for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. But that whole non-violence approach that he advocated , while the whiteman was sicking his German Shepherd dogs on our black men, men and children (all while we were un-armed) , beating us down (while were were un-armed) , lyching us, raping us, burning our neighborhoods down, shooting us in the back in cold blood, ect.. and then expect us to just take a lickin and just turn the other cheek and do nothing to those that threating the lives of us and our family members.. That just dont fly with me one bit. I dont give a damn who u are (man, woman, child, giant bear, rottwieler, pittbull, whatever) if u ever come at me with some violence (threatening myself and or family) I believe that you should get your ass wooped at the very least. Boy Gets His Ass Wooped After Trying To Rob A Store

Bethlehem Police say when 18-year-old Leonardo Vergas tried to rob this Exxon Mini-Mart Tuesday night for the 5th time in less than a month, store clerks Kuldip Singh and his cousin, Madhu, took matters into their own hands.

“We were tired,” explained Singh. “One time is enough. He kept coming in and coming in. That’s not fair, ya know?”

Surveillance video showed as Singh pulled out a baseball bat and hit Vergas repeatedly before Vergas managed to run out the side door.

“He has a knife, but it was a very small knife and this time we were not scared,” said Madhu Singh.

Authorities say they were tipped off last week that it was Vergas who allegedly committed over a half a dozen robberies on the eastside of Bethlehem. Vergas was under police surveillance, so when eye-witnesses at Exxon matched his jacket with the one the robbery suspect wore in seven other cases, police arrested him at home.

Vergas confessed to a total of eight robberies, including all five that happened at the Exxon.

“The fact that he was arrested on his 5th try at the Exxon, I guess he went to the well once too often I guess you could say,” said Commissioner Francis Donchez.

Bethlehem Police do not believe Vergas is responsible for any of the more that 100 other robberies that have taken place within the past month in the Lehigh Valley.

Vergas was treated for his injuries at St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill, and released. He was arraigned and is being held in Northampton County Jail on $250-thousand bail.

Sen. Hillary Clinton narrowly avoided political disaster yesterday by staying at least 15 feet away from Harry Belafonte at all times during the Children's Defense Fund lunch in the Rainbow Room.

That, presumably, was a safe distance.

With any luck, New York's junior senator won't be captured in any photographs - even those taken with a wideangle lens - cozying up to the tough-talking activist, who last weekend on a trip to Venezuela called President Bush "the greatest terrorist in the world."

In Caracas, Belafonte also lavished praise on Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, saying: "We respect you, we admire you" - never mind that Chavez lambasted Jews (in a televised Christmas Eve speech, no less) as "descendants of those who crucified Christ" and "a minority [who] took the world's riches for themselves."

In short, Belafonte might have star power, but he doesn't offer the sort of celebrity linkage that helps a politician who's been positioning herself as a right-center Democrat while considering running for President in a couple of years.

Like Clinton, a founder and former chairman of the children's advocacy organization, the 78-year-old calypso legend was listed prominently on the program. She was keynote speaker while he was a presenter (along with Marlo Thomas) of the group's Beat the Odds Award to five teenagers.

But when the 58-year-old Clinton swept into the room mid-meal, she didn't do the usual thing and stop by Belafonte's table for a quick hello. She didn't even acknowledge his presence. She simply pretended he wasn't there.

She strode onstage to deliver 10 minutes of remarks, sat through somebody else's speech, then bolted out the door - moments before Belafonte's turn at the mic - without taking reporters' questions.

Children's Defense Fund lunch organizers also had Harry on a tight leash. Had he spoken to Hillary lately? "If you are even thinking about asking a question like that, I can't let you talk to him," one handler advised Lowdown.

Later, during a press conference on health care, Clinton refused to address it. "I'm sorry, this is about Medicare Prescription Part D," she scolded a nosy reporter. "You're welcome to call my office, but I'm talking about something that is literally a life-and-death matter to hundreds of thousands of people who I have the privilege of representing."

Word is Boondocks' creator Aaron McGruder is poised to spin his animated series off into a motion picture and video game properties.
According to reports, McGruder revealed the plans last weekend at The New York Times' Fifth Annual Arts & Leisure Weekend.
Since Boondocks' premiered on The Cartoon Network late last year, critics have bashed the series for its excessive use of 'The N Word." McGruder said he's heard way fouler language on black radio stations.
This Sunday (January 15), in honor of Martin Luther King Day, the show will premiere an episode entitled "The Return of the King." The episode will feature Dr. King in post 9/11 America after coming out of a 32-year coma. The controversial series is also likely to generate attention with its Feb. 25 episode which will be themed around kidnapping plans on Oprah Winfrey. According to McGruder, Winfrey's visual likeness was edited because Sony Pictures, which distributes the series, wouldn't authorize its use.

Aunt Jemima Arrested & Banned From City Council Meetings

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An activist who was arrested after disrupting a City Council meeting in an Aunt Jemima costume has been banned by the council president from attending meetings until the end of March.

Jackie Brown was escorted out of a Nov. 22 City Council meeting after loudly criticizing the council for the city's small business incentive law.

Brown, president of the Jacksonville Coalition of Black Contractors, said the law treats blacks like "slaves" because it does not provide enough opportunities for minority contractors.

She returned during a later public comment period and scuffled with a police officer after refusing to leave when ordered.

Brown was arrested and charged with causing a disturbance at a lawful assembly and resisting a police officer.

A letter this week from Council President Kevin Hyde informing Brown she cannot attend council meetings until March 31 cites a rule that allows the council to remove disruptive citizens from meetings.

The wedding might be scheduled for January 14th, according to a US tabloid that claims to have seen an official wedding invitation.
Apparently, the invitation writes that Eminem will marry his best friend, the one he laughs with, lives for, loves.

This appears to be Kim, since she corresponds to the description.
The couple also has a nine-year-old daughter together, Hailie.

Twenty-Year-Old Man Files Civil Suit Claiming Michael Jackson Molested Him Years Ago

*A 20-year-old man has filed a civil lawsuit in California against Michael Jackson claiming the pop star sexually molested him on different occasions between the ages of two and 14.
Michael Mattern, a lawyer for the unnamed man, says his client was present at Jackson’s houses and was molested many times by the singer between 1987 and 1999, according to a report on the Web site Monsters and Critics.
The man, who filed the lawsuit in October, also claims that he was subjected to “unnecessary cosmetic procedures.” Mattern claims to have photos of his client “with these red lips just like you see on Mr. Jackson and a big old cleft chin, which he didn’t have previously.”
The accuser also claims to have come up with song lyrics and melodies that were used by Jackson without compensation. The man, who has not been named, was interviewed before Jackson's trial last year, but no charges relating to his allegations were brought.
The new case is due to be heard in Orange County next month.

AN EXTRAORDINARY "hyperspace" engine that could make interstellar space travel a reality by flying into other dimensions is being investigated by the United States government. The hypothetical device, which has been outlined in principle but is based on a controversial theory about the fabric of the universe, could potentially allow a spacecraft to travel to Mars in three hours and journey to a star 11 light years away in just 80 days, according to a report in today's New Scientist magazine. The theoretical engine works by creating an intense magnetic field that, according to ideas first developed by the late scientist Burkhard Heim in the 1950s, would produce a gravitational field and result in thrust for a spacecraft. Also, if a large enough magnetic field was created, the craft would slip into a different dimension, where the speed of light is faster, allowing incredible speeds to be reached. Switching off the magnetic field would result in the engine reappearing in our current dimension. The US air force has expressed an interest in the idea and scientists working for the American Department of Energy - which has a device known as the Z Machine that could generate the kind of magnetic fields required to drive the engine - say they may carry out a test if the theory withstands further scrutiny. Professor Jochem Hauser, one of the scientists who put forward the idea, told The Scotsman that if everything went well a working engine could be tested in about five years. However, Prof Hauser, a physicist at the Applied Sciences University in Salzgitter, Germany, and a former chief of aerodynamics at the European Space Agency, cautioned it was based on a highly controversial theory that would require a significant change in the current understanding of the laws of physics. "It would be amazing. I have been working on propulsion systems for quite a while and it would be the most amazing thing. The benefits would be almost unlimited," he said. "But this thing is not around the corner; we first have to prove the basic science is correct and there are quite a few physicists who have a different opinion. "It's our job to prove we are right and we are working on that." He said the engine would enable spaceships to travel to different solar systems. "If the theory is correct then this is not science fiction, it is science fact," Prof Hauser said. "NASA have contacted me and next week I'm going to see someone from the [US] air force to talk about it further, but it is at a very early stage. I think the best-case scenario would be within the next five years [to build a test device] if the technology works." The US authorities' attention was attracted after Prof Hauser and an Austrian colleague, Walter Droscher, wrote a paper called "Guidelines for a space propulsion device based on Heim's quantum theory".

The Chicago Police Department is warning officers their cell phone records are available to anyone -- for a price. Dozens of online services are selling lists of cell phone calls, raising security concerns among law enforcement and privacy experts.
Criminals can use such records to expose a government informant who regularly calls a law enforcement official.
Suspicious spouses can see if their husband or wife is calling a certain someone a bit too often.
And employers can check whether a worker is regularly calling a psychologist -- or a competing company.
Some online services might be skirting the law to obtain these phone lists, according to Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), who has called for legislation to criminalize phone record theft and use.
In some cases, telephone company insiders secretly sell customers' phone-call lists to online brokers, despite strict telephone company rules against such deals, according to Schumer.
And some online brokers have used deception to get the lists from the phone companies, he said.
"Though this problem is all too common, federal law is too narrow to include this type of crime," Schumer said last year in a prepared statement.
The Chicago Police Department is looking into the sale of phone records, a source said.
Late last month, the department sent a warning to officers about Locatecell.com, which sells lists of calls made on cell phones and land lines.
"Officers should be aware of this information when giving out their personal cell phone numbers to the general public," the bulletin said. "Undercover officers should also be aware of this information if they occasionally call personal numbers such as home or the office, from their [undercover] ones."
Test got FBI's calls in 3 hours
To test the service, the FBI paid Locatecell.com $160 to buy the records for an agent's cell phone and received the list within three hours, the police bulletin said.
Representatives of Data Find Solutions Inc., the Tennessee-based operator of Locatecell.com, could not be reached for comment.
Frank Bochte, a spokesman for the FBI in Chicago, said he was aware of the Web site.
"Not only in Chicago, but nationwide, the FBI notified its field offices of this potential threat to the security of our agents, and especially our undercover agents," Bochte said. "We need to educate our personnel about the dangers posed by individuals using this site and others like it. We are stressing that they should be careful in their cellular use."
How well do the services work? The Chicago Sun-Times paid $110 to Locatecell.com to purchase a one-month record of calls for this reporter's company cell phone. It was as simple as e-mailing the telephone number to the service along with a credit card number. The request was made Friday after the service was closed for the New Year's holiday.
'Most powerful investigative tool'
On Tuesday, when it reopened, Locatecell.com e-mailed a list of 78 telephone numbers this reporter called on his cell phone between Nov. 19 and Dec. 17. The list included calls to law enforcement sources, story subjects and other Sun-Times reporters and editors.
Ernie Rizzo, a Chicago private investigator, said he uses a similar cell phone record service to conduct research for his clients. On Friday, for instance, Rizzo said he ordered the cell phone records of a suburban police chief whose wife suspects he is cheating on her.
"I would say the most powerful investigative tool right now is cell records," Rizzo said. "I use it a couple times a week. A few hundred bucks a week is well worth the money."
Only financial info protected?
In July, the Electronic Privacy Information Center filed a petition with the Federal Communications Commission seeking an end to the sale of telephone records.
"We're very concerned about Locatecell," said Chris Jay Hoofnagle, senior counsel for the center. "This is the company that sold the phone records of a Canadian official to a reporter 'no questions asked.' "
Schumer has called for legislation to criminalize the "stealing and selling" of cell phone logs. He also urged the Federal Trade Commission to set up a unit to stop it.
He said a common method for obtaining cell phone records is "pretexting," involving a data broker pretending to be a phone's owner and duping the phone company into providing the information.
"Pretexting for financial data is illegal, but it does not include phone records," Schumer said. "We already have protections for our financial information. We ought to have it for the very personal information that can be gleaned from telephone records."

In “I wish I had more money to make this trouble go away” news, a federal jury in Los Angeles convicted singer-songwriter Ronald Isley of five counts of tax evasion and one count of willful failure to file a tax return.That’s right; old man “Winters” tried to conceal millions of dollars of income from the Internal Revenue Service. Bad move. Isley, who has residences in Los Angeles and St. Louis, was convicted by a jury that deliberated for only three hours. During a three-week trial with almost 20 witnesses, federal prosecutors apparently proved to the jury that Isley received millions of dollars in cash and spent his money on a luxurious lifestyle. From 1997 through 2002, the evidence showed, Isley evaded the payment of more than $3 million in federal income taxes. Prosecutors claim Isley evaded the payment of income taxes in a variety of ways, including depositing and using for his own benefit royalty checks that were issued to other Isley Brothers-related entities and persons, including Okelly Isley, Isley’s deceased brother. Damn Ron, you’re playing games.Isley also required that one-half of the guaranteed fee for each tour date be delivered to him in cash on the date of the performance. While on tour, Isley paid his musicians and performers in cash, making it difficult to determine how much cash Isley retained from the up-front fee. The balance of the tour performance fees were generally deposited into a bank account in the name of Isley Brothers Music Corporation. The prosecutors argued to the jury that Isley created a vast web of bank accounts and shell companies that he used to conceal his income. Isley is scheduled to be sentenced by United States District Judge Dean D. Pregerson on January 9. Right now this is my favorite show on television (in which I rarely watch). This show uses the word "NIGGA" at least once every 5 inutes or less in every episode. Count how many times the word nigga is said in a single episode. I just wish they would drop more knowledge o the show, instead of always makin fun of crazy "niggas" and black folks (yes there is a difference between the two - black people are what all black people are, and Niggas are the triflin, sorry, not taking care of business muthafuckaz that have black skin). Singer Lou Rawls Dead At Age 72

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Grammy-wining singer Lou Rawls died in Los Angeles on Friday morning of lung cancer, his spokesman said. Rawls was in his early 70s.
Rawls, a rhythm and blues crooner known for hits including "Lady Love," "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" and "Tobacco Road," died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, spokesman Paul Shefrin said.
Rawls won three Grammy awards and 13 nominations over a career that lasted more than 40 years and included working with The Beatles, Sam Cooke and Joe Williams in a repertoire that ranged from gospel to jazz to doo-wop.
Shefrin said Rawls was 72, although various music reference books and Web sites placed him at 70.
He is survived by his wife, Nina, who was bedside at the time of his death, three adult children, Louanna Rawls, Lou Rawls, Jr., and Kendra Smith, as well as his infant son, Aiden, Shefrin said.

Former Boxing Champ Thomas Hearns Woops His Son's Ass

Southfield, Michigan - Former boxing champion Thomas Hearns has been accused of striking his son during an argument and faces misdemeanor assault and battery charges.
Police were called to Hearns' home in this Detroit suburb about 19:00 on Sunday.
Detective John Harris said Hearns, 47, was arguing with his 13-year-old son when it became physical.
Reached on Tuesday at his home, Hearns declined comment to The Associated Press.
The boy sustained minor injuries, The Oakland Press of Pontiac reported. The newspaper did not say why Hearns and his son argued.
Hearns was arraigned on Monday and released on $10 :000 personal bond. Magistrate Eugene Friedman ordered him not to have any contact with his son. A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for Friday.
Hearns held WBA, WBC, WBU and IBO titles ranging from the welterweight to cruiserweight divisions from 1980 to 1999, and had memorable fights with Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran and Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
Hearns began a comeback in July with an eight-round victory over lightly regarded John Long. After the match, Hearns said he was planning to fight for a long time.
His record is 60-1-5 with 47 knockouts.

Ebay Crooks Scam People Out Of Over $132,000.00 And Get Away

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A scammer on auction site eBay has stolen more than $132,000 from innocent bidders all over the continent, Kansas City television station KMBC reported.
The station said it is the biggest scam ever reported on the site.
Danielle Stange said she was ripped off and has no way to get her money back.
"I was bidding on an iPod for my brother. I was buying it for my parents for him for Christmas," Stange said.
Before Stange placed her bid, she did what the FBI suggested. She checked the seller's reputation and asked the seller if he or she used PayPal.
But the seller in this case did not use PayPal, which is an online payment system.
"Which was a red flag. But I called him before I bid and asked him to explain why he didn't take PayPal. He explained that he had been burned a few times by PayPal," Stange said.
But the green star, eBay's stamp of a super seller, boosted Stange's confidence.
For a month, Stange said she read nothing but good things about the seller, so she decided to bid. She won and sent in a money order for more than $200.
"About a week later, I hadn't heard anything, so I called him. He said he had received my payment that day and would send me confirmation via e-mail. And everything was fine. Then, about a week later, I still hadn't heard anything," Stange said.
Stange said she got back on eBay and saw that complaints canceled out the previous compliments she had seen.
"He had gotten more than 100 negative feedbacks from people with the same experience as me. They'd sent in money, had gotten confirmation of the payment but had not seen any of their items," Stange said.
Moritz said hundreds of people were affected.
"Just today, I've received more than 300 e-mails from people who have been hurt by this," Stange said.
The online auction site closed down the seller's account. Investigators in Collier County, Fla., said that they are looking for Alisher Mardonov, 34, and his girlfriend, Shahnoza Khakimova, 31. Authorities said Mardonov traded on eBay under the screen name alisher71.
Investigators said Mardonov and Khakimova are reported to be Uzbekistan citizens. Investigators are working with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. A nationwide notice has been sent to law enforcement agencies.
